This Week in Hillary-World: Double Standards, Pussy Riot and the Female Plight

Each week, we explore Hillary Clinton's universe, gleaning insights from rumor-mongers, pundits, pollsters, political writers and more. Yes, the election is still a bazillion years away, but when it comes to the story of the potential first female president ever (!!), it's never too early to start the conversation.

Hillary Calls out Double Standard for Women

At Tina Brown's Women in the World Summit this week, Hillary had this to say:

There is a double standard, obviously. We have all either experienced it or at the very least seen it . . . The double standard is alive and well and I think, in many respects, the media is the principle propagator of its persistence.

Sing it, sister! On the downside, the comments thread of the story about her empowering quote is filled with anti-woman dreck, including one that condescendingly frames her words as "I'm just a woman and you're a big bully and a man and I can't defend my self as I'm so confused and scared!" Yes, that's right, random misogynist, talking about a double standard is a sign of girly weakness. See why we need a female truth-speaker in power like Hillary?

Hills Hangs with Pussy Riot!

Buried in the piece about Hillary's time at the summit is a tidbit about her hanging out with two members of Pussy Riot. Oh, man. We would have killed to be a part of that confab.

Media Continues Hot and Heavy Relationship with Bush-Clinton Narrative

The media loves itself a good, juicy story, and apparently, it doesn't get meatier than the possibility of a Jeb Bush-Hillary Clinton smackdown in '16. A story about the meaning of the Clinton and Bush "dynasties" and "brands" was featured in The Dallas Morning News and The New York Post, as well as on the website of the American Enterprise Institute. Bush! Clinton! OMG!

Bill Posts (Pretty Dang Adorable) Twitter Pic Homage to Hillary

On April Fools' Day, Bill Clinton posted a Twitter photo of himself intently looking at his iPad in dark sunglasses, a nod to the photo of Hillary with her Blackberry that went viral in 2012. Granted, with his vaguely smirking expression, Bill looked much less like a boss than Hillary did in her classic photo, but still .  . . cute. Bonus points for his caption, "I'm following my leader!" Extra bonus points for the response from Hills: "Well, that explains what happened to my iPad!" Oh, those crazy kids . . .

The Lowdown

Overall, this was another solid week for Hillary, replete with a sweet Twitter moment, high-profile shout-out to women, and association with the awesomeness that is Pussy Riot. One wrinkle? A planned protest over Hillary speaking at a conference in San Diego regarding (surprise!) Benghazi. At this point, though, such backlash is blase, and the news got minimal pickup from the press.

In terms of numbers, yet another new nationwide poll showed Hillary drubbing potential GOP opponents, while even performing strongly with most religious groups.

What will happen next week in the saga of Hillary's (presumed) presidential run? Stay tuned for our next roundup!
