Watch: Jon Stewart Lampoons Searing Senate Debate About...Yogurt

When The Daily Show features happenings in local news, they're typically of the batshit-crazy variety. But this time Jon Stewart is only half joking when he calls a New York State Senate debate over whether yogurt should be the state’s official snack "maybe the best 40 minutes any legislative chamber anywhere in the country has ever spent."

Is this a fairly absurd topic? Perhaps. But there is potentially big money at stake here for the winning industry...which helps explain the pseudo-serious rebuttals to yogurt's coronation, such as "how would you define 'snack?'" and "have you considered potato chips?"

Fear not, the yogurt-sponsoring senator has answers for all the fermented-milk skeptics’ questions. At one point, Stewart exclaims, "This guy's like the Ken Jennings of yogurt!" And just wait until the legislature gets on the topic of apple muffins. You may never be the same.

Relish this legislative debate of the century below.
