Lauren: Social Media Manager

What are you up to today?
I'm going camping! I forget where –– somewhere up north. My boyfriend has the directions and everything. We booked it on Hipcamp and it has a little swimming pool and stuff so we're excited.

I've never used Hipcamp before –– is it like a reservation site?
Yeah, it's like Airbnb but for campsites. So you can go on, and everyone just writes reviews and posts photos and stuff.

That's handy because competition for campsites in the Bay Area can be kind of fierce!
I know! I actually just moved here from New York and I had no idea people were so intense about reserving campsites. I got here and was like, man! I already set a calendar alarm for myself for next year to start reserving things. It's so stressful! [laughs]

What's your occupation?
I'm a social media manager.

How did you get into doing that?
Before this I worked at MTV –– I was in New York and I loved working there, but I didn't like New York so I just wanted to move out here and be out in nature more.

What do you like most about what you do?
I love being creative and silly. I tweet about food and more lighthearted topics so it's easy to just make everything fun and entertaining.

What are your favorite places to hang out in the area?
I live in Oakland, in the Temescal area and I love it. I was living in Williamsburg in New York so it's very similar. I really love Tilden Park. It's cool that it's so close by. You can just drive and hike and it's nice. It's like Central Park on steroids.

What's something that's caught your interest lately?
A friend of mine gave me a book that I started reading called Men Explain Things To Me. I forget the author's name but she's the journalist who coined the term "Mansplaining". So, yeah –– just started reading that.

How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is pretty eclectic, actually. Sometimes I'm more bohemian and relaxed and sometimes I'm more put-together and polished. A lot of different verticals I guess! [laughs]

I love your color scheme today!
It's right before Labor Day so I wanted to get my last bright colors in before fall!

The blinged-out headphones are a nice touch, and love the fishtail braid!
Yeah, if you have dirty hair you can make it look nice. [laughs]
