Francesca Myman: Design Editor, Fabric Hunter

Spotted Near: Lake Merritt, Oakland, CA
Occupation: Design Editor for Locus Magazine

Where did you get your awesome dress?
I design my own outfits! I get my fabrics from LA. I make trips down there with an empty car and come back with the car full of fabric swatches! The pettycoats come from squaredance retailers.

What is Locus Magazine?
Reviews of Sci-Fi and Fantasy books, short stories and interviews with authors of the [included] short stories.

What does a design editor do?
It's a big job with a lot of responsibility: photoshop, events, photography for events, processing photos for print production and even helping with Interviews when it's needed.

Are you reading anything interesting right now?
I'm trying to work my way through China Miéville's pieces. He is baroque and imaginative, he pulls in threads from many cultures to make something distinctly his own.
And I just finished "After Party" by Daryl Gregory—that was a good one.

Most interesting thing you've learned recently?
Patience! Knowing when to wait for the things that life isn't ready to give you yet.

And what's something you've really been thinking about lately?
People need to be reading more—don't let print mags decline. They're still out there and full of other worlds!
