I Dream of Denim: Alexa Chung’s Collaboration With AG Makes Total Sense

Alexa Chung wears many hats. She’s an It Girl, a model, a Chanel muse, a journalist, a VJ, a host and now she's adding denim designer to that list. This morning WWD announced that the fashionista will collaborate with designer denim label AG Adriano Goldschmied for a collection of Chung-inspired denim.

It’s not surprising news. Since Alexa sprung onto the scene just a few years ago, she’s pretty much always included some sort of denim in her daily attire. She’s responsible for bringing back the teeny tiny, frayed-at-the-edges jean shorts (she styles them with Chanel ballet flats and fitted sweaters) and has also been known to rock an overall.

But more than her role as a denim aficionado, Chung has incredible selling power, and we totally get it. She’s cheeky, funny, and has said she’d rather be considered clever than pretty (and yes, women like to hear things like that). Chung is relatable, and that reliability has translated seamlessly into multiple collaborations, including a collection with Madewell in 2011—the range’s dropped waist dresses and angora sweaters were a huge hit with young women wanting to emulate Chung’s style.

Chung’s signature cat eye was also made available to the masses through London beauty brand Eyeko, who collaborated with her on an eyeliner, mascara and eye-shadow line. The fashionista even penned a coffee table book last September entitled “It.” It’s a collection of her doodles, photographs, memoirs and inspirations and it was the most-Instagrammed thing during NY Fashion Week (perfectly photographed with macaroons, a latte and an accompanying quote like "catching up on some light reading in between shows!").

With her insane popularity, it’s actually surprising that this is the first time a denim brand has snatched her up as a collaborator, but AG hit the jackpot. The 20-piece collection, described by Chung as “inherently the missing pieces of my dream denim wardrobe, which, as ever, is predominantly inspired by a late Sixties, early Seventies aesthetic” won't hit stores until January of 2015, but it's already more-than-buzzworthy.

Just this morning, Chung Instagrammed a picture of a single metal button that reads “Alexa Chung for AG” and her 993,000 approved—almost 13,000 followers have already liked it

Now if she could just use her denim dominion for a little bit of evil and get Canadian tuxedos back in America's good graces and closets . . .
