Watch: The Lord of the Rings Summed Up in 90 Seconds

In this period of rest between film adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien novels (the final part of The Hobbit trilogy will be out later this year), perhaps it’s a good time to take a step back and re-evaluate The Lord of the Rings movies. I mean really, have any of us gotten over those first several years of the millennium when LOTR fanaticism struck all across the land?

Here, Mashable points out some of the major takeaways from these films—lessons you could possibly apply to your own life. We learn about the true crux of the action (nope, not the fighting), the creative energy provided by the actors’ past roles and a very important lesson about who you can trust in life (hint: you should definitely judge a book by its cover). We're also reminded that Sean Bean's characters are destined to die in all movies. Sorry.

No doubt Tolkien himself would very much approve of this pithy analysis. Watch and learn!
