Millennials

There’s a big difference between talking and communicating. One exists to relay messages, ideas, and feelings: the building blocks of being a person. The other exists to fill time. I’m by no means here to tell people how to approach their relationships — I just don’t want people to feel pressured to fill silences with noise out of the fear their partners won’t think they care.

It’s a well-documented fact that a majority of Democrats under 30 support Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. From the earliest races in the primary, he led with this demographic by huge margins, and shocked many with his emphatic popularity among millennial women, whom the Clinton campaign was understandably banking on.

Part of the problem with defining yourself in negatives (i.e. not religious) is that it’s hard to pinpoint what you actually do stand for.

The more conversations I have with fellow millennials, the more I realize we’re all going through similar growing pains. Professionally, we’re often struggling either to find our niche or to advance in the careers we’ve settled on. Socially, our friendships are in flux, with people constantly moving around and revising their values. And romantically, many of us still have nothing to report while we watch one friend after another pair up.

I decided there had to be something of substance to the serial selfiest. These people can't possibly all be narcissists.

Am I doing my 20s wrong?

Several of my relatives—especially those steeped in religion—have balked at our decision.

I know that in a lot of ways I am a cultural and ethnic enigma. But discussing my identity all the time can get old. Like, real old, real fast.
