American Moral Politics Lean to Left, Study Finds

American ideals originating from the 1950s seem to be fading as the nuclear family structure is becoming, well, old-fashioned. According to Gallup's Values and Beliefs survey, Americans are becoming increasingly more liberal, with acceptance of same-sex relationships, premarital sex and pregnancy outside of marriage. It appears that the majority of Americans are more socially liberal, demonstrating the diversity in the family structure.

In the new study, Americans are more accepting of same-sex relationships by 63%. In 2001, only 40% approved. Americans now accept of child out of wedlock by 61%, and 68% believe premarital sex is morally acceptable. In 2001, the acceptance level was below 55%, as only 45 approved of a child out of wedlock and 53 approved of premarital sex.

Other relevant issues asked in the survey also gave a liberal approval of divorce (71%) and stem cell research (64%). On the flip side, less than half of the population approves of polygamy (16%), having an affair (8%) and cloning humans (15%).

The survey interviewed 1,024 adults between May 6-10, 2015, living in all 50 states US states as well as the District of Columbia, by cellphone and landline.

The new normal now includes same-sex relationships and different ways of raising children. It appears that the nuclear family is now almost a myth (and kudos to that!).
