So, can we be (mostly) done with pumpkin spice all-the-things now? Let’s move on to something better, bolder, more festive.

I love winter and the wintry spices it brings. I also love the word “wintry” and use it at every opportunity.

Just kidding.

Kind of.

Anyway, this is the perfect season to give our daily staples a little boost. I mean, that’s why the PS latte is such a thing, right? Because it’s coffee AND it’s wonderful. And we need more wonderful in our lives. I’m not trying to get all Steel Magnolia on your asses, but Shelby was right. I would rather have a few cups of wonderful than a lifetime of coffee that’s nothing special.

Luckily for us, we don’t need the classic '80s melodrama or Julia Roberts to help us embrace the something special in our coffee cups. We are empowered now. Coffee, just like Julia, has reinvented itself to suit the needs and demands of our modern lifestyle and food network fantasies.

Ingredients:

1 cup strong coffee (brewed, not grounds)

1/2 cup hot half-and-half or other non-dairy creamer

1/2 tsp ground ginger

1/2 tsp ground cardamom

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp nutmeg

1 dash ground cloves

1 shot of Bailey’s (optional)

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a large mug or blender. Mix well. Enjoy immediately and feel the warmth of the season course through your veins, just as the tears coursed down your face when Shelby died.
