In today's news, the sky is blue, Republican lawmakers are assholes, and the House just voted to defund Planned Parenthood. Again.
It's an auspicious start to the very first week of 2016, particularly since President Obama has already vowed to veto any legislation that defunds that organization. Why? Because he's not an asshole.
Meanwhile, while Republicans continue their fruitless obsession with the state of our uteruses, a fat lot of nothing has been done about pretty much anything else. House Speaker Paul Ryan claims that today's vote is justified by rising health care costs and the "abortion-industrial complex," which isn't an actual thing just in case you were wondering. (The prison-industrial complex is, though, and I would love to hear Ryan's proposed solution to the school-to-prison pipeline and the disproportionately high number of incarcerated Black men. I'll be waiting, Paul. Anytime.)
Lest you forget, this week's attack on Planned Parenthood was ostensibly motivated by a series of now thoroughly discredited attack ads. Congress itself couldn't muster up any real evidence of wrongdoing, but its attacks have continued nonetheless.
Since facts have had no bearing on the Republican's efforts, there's only one way to stop the Republican witch hunt — by voting these fuckers out.
Happy election year, ladies!
