I certainly don’t claim to have all the answers. All I know for sure is that my boys have turned out so much better than I would have ever imagined when I stood so apprehensively in the Target aisle all those years ago. And it makes me humble, relieved, and incredibly grateful.

Just like kids who kick the seat in front of them and middle-aged women who get drunk and chatty on long flights, crying babies are a fact of life.

There is a bigger problem at hand here: the toy industry feels that it is appropriate and lucrative to include play guns in children’s toys.

A: No one is perfect, B: Perceived perfection is a LIE, and C: THEY’RE CHILDREN FOR FUCK SAKE!

When your kid starts talking back or mouthing off, it pushes your buttons! Staying calm feels incredibly hard, even though you know — in theory — that a calm response is best for everyone involved (as well as your blood pressure).
