A few weeks ago, I thought we might actually celebrate the end of the 2016 election.

Americans hoped that when the election was over, there would be a decrease in the rampant uncivil discourse unleashed during the course of the 2016

I started this column about five times over the weekend. It’s now Monday, 8 AM, and I’m starting it for a sixth time.

While Kanye West fans expected to get provocative musical performances during his Saint Pablo tour, audiences this weekend got a few surprises.

I am so very afraid.

Because here's the thing. Kindness is the antidote to the poison being pedaled by the Trumps of the world. Your anger is valid and important, and your despair should never be overlooked. And you can be all of the things, feel all of the feelings, ardently and vigorously defend the most vulnerable among us, say all of the words you need to say, and act with an undercurrent of kindness.

There is anger today. It is visceral. It’s on Facebook. It’s on Twitter. It’s in the streets of the cities of America.

We will not be having our first woman president and I, for one, must grieve. A dream deferred.
